$1.3B winning Powerball ticket sold in Portland, Oregon

The ticket was purchased in Portland on Saturday at a Plaid Pantry store.

PORTLAND, Ore. — After 40 consecutive Powerball drawings without a grand prize winner, a single ticket purchased on Saturday, April 6 in Portland, Oregon has won a $1.326 billion jackpot after a winless streak that stretched more than three months.

The winner came forward on Monday to claim the prize, the Oregon Lottery said. However, the identity of the person will not be revealed until after certain security measures and vetting has taken place.

The winning ticket was sold at a Plaid Pantry in Northeast Portland at Columbia Boulevard and 60th Avenue.

After Saturday night's drawing was delayed initially, the winning numbers drawn early Sunday morning were 22, 27, 44, 52, 69, with Powerball 9 and Power Play multiplier 3X.

It's the fourth-largest Powerball jackpot in the game's history and the largest Powerball prize won in Oregon, surpassing a $340 million jackpot won in 2005. The last time a Powerball jackpot was won in the state was 2018, when a Salem man won $150.4 million.

"I want to congratulate the winner on this life changing moment. No one in Oregon has ever won a prize on this scale, and it’s very exciting for our staff and players," said Oregon Lottery Director Mike Wells. "Even if you aren't holding the winning ticket, all of our players support programs and services statewide that receive Lottery dollars."

The $1.326 billion grand prize has an equivalent lump sum value of $621 million. The full jackpot is for a sole winner who chooses an annuity, paid over 30 years. Winners typically opt for the lump-sum cash option instead. The prizes would be subject to federal taxes, and many states also tax lottery winnings.

In addition to the jackpot winner, there were seven tickets that matched all five white balls to win $1 million prizes. The $1 million-winning tickets were sold in Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan and Wyoming.

This is the second billion-dollar lottery jackpot this year. A lucky winner in New Jersey snagged a $1.13 billion Mega Millions jackpot on March 26.

No one had won Powerball's top prize since New Year's Day, amounting to 40 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner.

The game's long odds of 1 in 292.2 million makes it a rare jackpot. By making the top prizes hard to hit, jackpots can grow large and then attract more sales.

Winning Powerball numbers for Saturday, April 6

The winning numbers for Saturday's drawing were 22, 27, 44, 52, 69 and Powerball 9. The Power Play multiplier was 3X.

When a winner matches all five numbers and the Powerball, they have the option to take the full jackpot paid out over 30 years, or a smaller cash payout. Winners almost always take the cash option.

Even with the smaller lump sum payout, federal taxes will eat into those winnings, and some states also tax big lottery prizes. Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
