Who won the $1.3B Powerball in Portland, Oregon?

The winning Powerball ticket was purchased at a Northeast Portland Plaid Pantry on Saturday.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The winning ticket of Powerball's $1.326 billion jackpot purchased in Portland, Oregon has come forward. 

An Oregon Lottery spokesperson told KGW the winning ticket was purchased in a Northeast Portland Plaid Pantry.

A ticket holder came forward on Monday to claim the prize, but the identity of that person has not yet been released.

"The process involves security measures and vetting that will take time before a winner can be announced," the Oregon Lottery said. 

The ticket was purchased on Saturday, April 6, and holds the winning numbers 22, 27, 44, 52, 69, with Powerball 9 and Power Play multiplier 3X.

The ticket was purchased at the Plaid Pantry on Northeast Columbia Boulevard near 60th Avenue.

How much does a store get for selling the winning ticket?

Stores that sell Powerball and other lottery tickets get a 1% selling bonus of up to $100,000 on prizes of $100,000 and above. So, the store that sold this will hit that $100,00 cap.

Can the winner remain anonymous in Oregon?

No, the name of the winner and city in which winning ticket was purchased is public record in Oregon, according to the Oregon Lottery website. However, there are exceptions, mostly if that person requests to not be named due to personal safety concerns, the lottery spokesperson said.

Does the prize have to be claimed in Oregon? 

Yes, prizes $50,000 and above must be claimed by appointment at either the Salem or Wilsonville Prize Payment Center, according to the Oregon Lottery website. 

How much after taxes is the $1.3 billion Powerball jackpot? 

Most jackpot winners go home with the lump sum, which means they get the "cash value" of the jackpot. For Powerball's $1.326 billion jackpot — the fourth largest in the game's history — the cash value was $621 million. About 24% of the cash value is withheld for federal taxes, dropping the winnings to approximately $471.96 million.

If the winner is not a resident in Oregon, about 30% of the cash value will be withheld for federal taxes. Plus, for prizes of $1,500 and more, Oregon state tax withholding is 8%.
