Weather Impact Alert Day on Thursday, Friday for temperatures in mid- to high-90s in Portland metro area

There's a good certainty that Saturday will stay below 90 degrees.

PORTLAND, Ore. — KGW is issuing a Weather Impact Alert Day for Thursday and Friday as temperatures will reach the upper 90s Thursday — the hottest day — and almost mid-90s Friday. Thursday broke area records for the hottest July in over 80 years.

There's a good certainty that Saturday will stay below 95 degrees; we are watching for thunderstorms Saturday. The storms that form over and east of the Cascades will once again lack rain, meaning new fire starts are a strong possibility.

We surge back into 90s Sunday and next Monday. After that, we should cool off and stay below 90 degrees again.

When

Portland temperatures will peak around 94 degrees Friday evening.

Impact

The weather impact of high temperatures reaching the mid-90s and hotter will increase the possibility of heat stroke, fatigue and dehydration. Those without adequate cooling will find these days challenging, as will people who work or live outdoors.

Need

If you have outdoor plans or need to work outdoors, make sure you're planning to pack extra water and stay hydrated. Keep updated with daily forecasts as KGW meteorologists track the risk factor.
