PORTLAND, Ore. — Avelo Airlines announced Wednesday it is expanding nonstop service between Salem and Northern California’s Bay Area and Wine Country.
According to a press release, flights will operate between the “most convenient” airports for both locations — Salem Municipal Airport (SLE) and the Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport (STS).
Service to Sonoma County will start on May 3 and operate on Mondays and Fridays every week. Introductory one-way fares will start at $62.
In 2023, Avelo became the first airline in nearly 15 years to offer commercial air service at the Salem airport. The Houston-based airline, known to offer low-costing services, said the new expansion will give them an even greater presence in the Willamette Valley region.
“With the addition of this exclusive nonstop service, getting to the Bay Area and California Wine Country is now more affordable and easier than ever for travelers in the Greater Portland region,” Avelo Airlines CEO Andrew Levy said. “This new route will also make getting from the Bay Area and Sonoma County to the mid-Willamette Valley region a faster and smoother experience.”
Last month, Avelo Airlines extended its West Coast schedule through June 11. Until then, Avelo customers can book flights to 16 popular destinations, including Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Texas and Washington.
It also includes a handful of destinations within Oregon, including Bend/Redmond (RDM), Eugene (EUG), Medford/Rogue Valley (MFR) and Portland/Salem (SLE).
Since taking flight on April 28, 2021, Avelo Airlines has flown over four million customers and operated over 30,000 nonstop flights. It serves 48 destinations in 23 states and Puerto Rico.
