TIGARD, Ore. — The Hall Boulevard-Highway 217 overpass in Tigard is closed for nine months. Greenberg Road is the preferred detour.
During the closure, which started on March 4, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will demolish and rebuild the Hall Boulevard overpass, making it wider, with bikes lanes and ADA-compliant sidewalks. The new bridge will be earthquake resistant and will have a slightly bigger footprint, making room for auxiliary lanes on Highway 217 below.
This is all part of ODOT's Oregon 217 Auxiliary Lanes Project, a four-year, $158-million renovation to the eight-mile freeway. The project has reached the halfway point.
When finished in late 2025, one of the biggest improvements drivers will notice is the additional southbound auxiliary lane from Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway to OR-99W. The northbound side will also have an auxiliary lane from 99W to Scholls Ferry Road.
ODOT estimates the highway carries about 120,000 vehicles per day, making it one of the busiest in Oregon. ODOT said the added auxiliary lanes will ease some of the ramp-to-ramp congestion and lessen the number of crashes.
The new Hall Boulevard overpass should open in December.
