PARIS, France — The Paris Olympics are well underway, but track and field events are just getting started. Dozens of athletes with ties to Oregon will try to bring home gold medals for Team USA.
The track and field competition kicked off Thursday, Aug. 1 with the men's and women's 20km race walk. The action picks up with a slew of events starting on Friday, Aug. 2. Below is a look the local athletes who are competing in track and field events in Paris.
Shot put
Ryan Crouser, who graduated from Sam Barlow High School in Gresham, will go for his third Olympic gold in men's shot put. Jaida Ross (University of Oregon) will compete in women's shot put. This is the North Medford High School alumi's first Olympics.

- Women's qualification: 1:28 a.m. on Aug. 8

10,000-meter
Woody Kincaid (University of Portland alumni) and Karissa Schweizer will make their second Olympic appearance. Schweizer trains with the Bowerman Track Club in Eugene.

- Women's final: 11:55 a.m. on Aug. 9
1,500-meter
Cole Hocker (University of Oregon alumni) set a meet record in the trials, clinching a spot for his second Olympics. Nikki Hiltz briefly attended the University of Oregon before transferring to Arkansas.

Along with the 10,000-meter, Karissa Schweizer is also competing in the 5,000-meter event.

100-meter hurdles
Alaysha Johnson (University of Oregon alumni) finished second in the 100-meter hurdles at the Olympic trials in Eugene.

Kyree King (University of Oregon alumni) is one of the athletes in the men's relay pool.
