PARIS, France — Ryan Crouser has returned to the Olympics, seeking to make history attempting to become the first men's shot putter to win three gold medals.

The Oregon-born gold medalist will compete in the first group of Olympic final qualifications on Friday, Aug. 2 in Paris. Crouser's qualification group is scheduled to begin throwing at 11:10 a.m. PST. He will need to place in the top 12 longest throws of the 31 total participants in order to advance to the final on Saturday, Aug. 3.

Crouser grew up in Oregon and attended Sam Barlow High School in Gresham. At young age, he dominated the shot-put, winning gold at the World Junior Championships.

After high school, Crouser attended the University of Texas where he won multiple national titles.

Since graduating from Texas, Crouser has dominated the world of shot-putting. He won gold at the Rio and Tokyo Olympics, and currently holds the top two world records for longest throw, as well as the Olympic record.

This Olympics will be different for Crouser, as leading up to the U.S. Olympic Trials, Crouser had not thrown in three months, dealing with a torn pectoral muscle. Despite that, Crouser won gold at the trials. With a chance to make history in Paris, the stakes are higher than they have ever been.
