PORTLAND, Ore. — After the Portland Trail Blazers added size and defense on the first day of the 2024 NBA Draft, the Blazers prioritized future assets and cash on Day 2, trading both of their second-round picks on Thursday.

Portland sent the 34th pick to the New York Knicks for three future second-round picks, a deal that was confirmed by the team, and the 40th pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to multiple reports, essentially for cash (more details below).

Before the draft started on Wednesday, the Blazers reportedly agreed to a trade for Washington Wizards 6-foot-9 forward Deni Avdija, and then followed that up by drafting 7-3 UConn center Donovan Clingan with the seventh overall pick. He joined ESPN's draft show during the second round and said he'll arrive in Portland on Friday.

On Thursday, the Blazers traded the 34th pick to the Knicks, who selected Marquette point guard Tyler Kolek. In exchange, Portland received three second-round picks from New York, in 2027, 2029 and 2030. Here are the details, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports:

  • 2027: from Minnesota Timberwolves (via Knicks)
  • 2029: least favorable of Indiana Pacers and Washington Wizards (via Knicks)
  • 2030: from New York Knicks

Fischer also reported that the Blazers traded the 40th pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder (who traded it to the Knicks who then traded it to the Phoenix Suns). The Blazers reportedly received the 52nd pick in the trade, but then the Blazers traded it to the Golden State Warriors.

Sean Highkin of The Rose Garden Report reported that the Blazers got cash from the Thunder and Warriors in those two trades. "Blazers got cash from OKC to move up from 52 to 40, and then got cash from Golden State for their own pick (52) back," Highkin wrote. Here are the details:

  • Blazers trade 40th pick to Oklahoma City Thunder for No. 52 and cash
  • Blazers trade No. 52 to Golden State Warriors for cash

Because the deals including the 40th and 52nd picks involve cash considerations, they can't be finalized, like the Advija trade, until July 6 at the earliest, because of how the trade is being processed, according to Danny Marang of Jacked Ramsays and 1080 The Fan.
