PORTLAND, Ore. — Six outdoor community pools will open for the summer, beginning Thursday.
The pools that are opening on June 20 include Creston, Grant, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, Peninsula, Pier and Sellwood, according to Portland Parks and Recreation.
Montavilla Outdoor Pool will open later on July 22. It had been closed due to planned revamping of the pool's plumbing and drain cover.
Grant, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, Montavilla, Pier and Sellwood pools will remain open until August 23; Creston and Peninsula pools will close September 6.
Three of the city's indoor year-round pools also remain open this summer except for Mt. Scott Community Center and Pool, which remains closed for major renovations. It's expected to reopen in 2025.
Portland Parks and Rec is still working on the planned North Portland Aquatic Center at Northgate Park. The project has been in the works in the years after Columbia Pool shut down in 2020 and never reopened. Columbia Pool was closed due to the pandemic, then in 2021, inspectors found major safety hazards with the nearly 100-year-old facility.
