A man was arrested for his involvement in a head-on crash that killed two people in Salem in September.
On Wednesday morning, police arrested 29-year-old Terrance Harley Quackenbush-Benson. The Springfield resident was taken to the Marion County Jail and charged with two counts of first-degree manslaughter, two counts of second-degree assault, driving under the influence, reckless driving and four counts of reckless endangerment.
On Sept. 18, police responded to a crash involving two pick-up trucks on Cordon Road Southeast. The occupants in one of the trucks — 28-year-old Blanca Mariela Franco-Ramos and 46-year-old Heriberto Rangel-Rangel — died upon the arrival of first responders. Three other occupants were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
According to the Salem Police Department, investigators determined Quackenbush-Benson's truck crossed the south travel lane, then struck Franco-Ramos's pick-up truck head-on, killing her and leaving a passenger in the front seat injured. The passenger remains hospitalized, police said.
A passenger in Quackenbush-Benson's truck was also injured.
