Weekend cold front brings snow, here's what Oregon ski lifts plan to open

While a slow start to the ski season, a weekend cold front is expected to bring more than a foot of snow.

Winter storm conditions allow ski lifts to open at Mt Hood Meadows.

PORTLAND, Ore. — While it’s been a slow start for ski resorts around Oregon, incoming cold weather will bring snow to the Cascades. More than a foot of snow is expected to drop at Mount Hood this weekend, as a cold front arrives Saturday bringing winter storm conditions. 

Here's what ski lifts are expected to be open this weekend:

Mount Hood Meadows

Six lifts are expected to open at Mt Hood Meadows, including the new six-seater Mt Hood Express for day and night operations. The south-side lifts of Buttercup, Easy Rider and Daisy are expected to be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., along with ballroom carpet. 

Shooting Star Express is expected to be open, but from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the Cascade and Vista Express lifts are on standby as of Friday due to wind and low visibility.

Timberline Lodge

Currently, three lifts are expected to be open at Timberline Lodge, with most waiting for more snow to open. Bruno's and Pucci are expected to be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Timber Tiger Conveyor will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mount Hood Skibowl

With only up to four inches of snow at the top of Mount Hood Skibowl, no lifts are open as of Friday. However, snowtubing operations are expected to be open during the day and for Cosmic Tubing at night.

Mount Bachelor

As of Friday, all but four lifts are open in Bend on Mount Bachelor. All are expected to be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., except Cloudchaser which is expected to close earlier at 3:30 p.m.

Ski Conditions Coming Up

With more winter storm systems on the way early next week, current forecast models show that Mount Hood is expected to pick up a total of more than 58 inches of snow till next Friday, and the Hoodoo ski area could land more than 69 inches, according to KGW meteorologist Rod Hill.
