MT ANGEL, Ore. — A suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a Mt. Angel man on New Year's Day, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies from the sheriff's office and officers from the Mt. Angel and Silverton police departments responded just before 6 a.m. on New Year's Day to Pershing Street near Marquam Street after receiving a 911 call that a man had been shot. At the scene, officers found 42-year-old Brandon Slack of Mt. Angel suffering from serious injuries.

Despite attempts to provide medical aid, the sheriff's office said, Slack died at the scene.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office detectives later identified 42-year-old Agustin Barocio of Mt. Angel as a suspect in this investigation. An arrest warrant was issued for Barocio for first-degree murder and other charges, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

U.S. Marshals helped locate and arrest Barocio in Mexico on May 24. Barocio was transported back to the U.S., and his court date is pending.

Slack's family has been notified of the arrest, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said.
