MT ANGEL, Ore. — A Mt. Angel man died after a shooting in the small Marion County city Monday morning, according to a statement from the Marion County Sheriff's Office. Law enforcement has yet to arrest a suspect in the deadly shooting.

Deputies from the sheriff's office and officers from the Mt. Angel and Silverton police departments responded just before 6 a.m. on New Year's Day to Pershing Street near Marquam Street after receiving a 911 call that a man had been shot. At the scene, officers found 42-year-old Brandon Slack of Mt. Angel suffering from serious injuries.

Despite attempts to provide medical aid, the sheriff's office said, Slack died at the scene.

The shooting suspect had left the area before officers arrived. Detectives from the sheriff's office criminal investigations unit responded to lead the investigation, assisted by Mt. Angel police.

On Monday evening, the Marion County Sheriff's Office SWAT team helped detectives serve a search warrant in the Gervais area in connection with the shooting investigation, the sheriff's office said. However, no arrests were made.

MCSO said that this remains an active investigation, and no further information will be released for the time being.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Jessica Van Horn at 503-584-6211. Anonymous tips can also be sent by texting TIPMCSO and the tip to 847411.
