In May, a 12-person jury found 43-year-old Quentin Blackmon guilty of first-degree manslaughter, first-degree robbery, unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm and unauthorized use of a vehicle. Separately, he was found guilty of felon in possession of a firearm.

On Aug. 20, 2020, Portland police responded to reports of a shooting near the Grotto along Northeast Skidmore Street. When officers arrived, they found 66-year-old Thomas Hammond dead. An investigation found Blackmon had shot and killed Hammond during a carjacking.

Officers arrested and placed Blackmon into custody on Oct. 2, 2020, where he has remained ever since.

Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Kelly Skye sentenced Blackmon Friday to 285 month, or 23.75 years, in prison.

Blackmon is also accused of murder in a separate case for the death of 33-year-old Michael Epps Jr., who was shot and killed in the same location as Hammond. The district attorney's office said that trial is scheduled to start in September.
