PORTLAND, Ore. — A jury found a man guilty Tuesday for killing a man during a carjacking in Northeast Portland in 2020, the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office said.
On Aug. 20, 2020, Portland police responded to reports of a shooting near the Grotto along Northeast Skidmore Street. When officers arrived, they found a man shot dead, later identified as 66-year-old Thomas Hammond, the district attorney's office said.
An investigation found Quentin Blackmon, 43, shot and killed Hammond during a carjacking. Officers arrested and placed Blackmon into custody on Oct. 2, 2020, where he has remained ever since. Blackmon has pled not guilty to the charges, according the news release.
On Tuesday, a 12-person jury found Blackmon guilty of first-degree manslaughter, first-degree robbery, unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm and unauthorized use of a vehicle. He was also found guilty of felon in possession of a firearm on Wednesday. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 23.
According to the district attorney's office, Blackmon is also accused in a separate murder trial for the death of 33-year-old Michael Epps Jr., who was also shot and killed in the same location as Hammond. That trial is scheduled to start in September.
