Man arrested for murder in deadly July shooting in Northeast Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. — A Portland man is facing a murder charge for a deadly shooting in July. Arvoni Hayes, 23, was arrested on Wednesday for an outstanding murder warrant stemming from a Grand Jury indictment.

Hayes is accused of shooting 30-year-old Aaron McInnis. On July 14 around 11:30 p.m., police officers responded to a shooting near the intersection of Northeast 55th Avenue and Northeast Hassalo Street. The police officers found a man, later identified as McInnis, with life-threatening injuries. McInnis was taken to a hospital where he died. The medical examiner determined McInnis died from gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide.

On Sept. 11, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Hayes. He was taken to the Multnomah County Detention Center for murder in the second degree, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a loaded firearm in public. The following day, Hayes pleaded not guilty on all charges.
