PORTLAND, Oregon — A suspect is in custody, accused of shooting and killing a man in downtown Portland in March.
The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested 33-year-old Alexander Lewis on Tuesday. He is accused of killing 33-year-old Aaron Beasley.
On March 17, Portland police responded to a shooting just before midnight near Southwest 10th Avenue and Southwest Yamhill Street. Officers found Beasley with a gunshot wound and provided him with first aid until paramedics arrived. Beasley died at the hospital, Portland police said.
The medical examiner determined Beasley died from a gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide.
Lewis was taken to the Multnomah County Detention Center and faces charges of murder in the second degree, unlawful use of a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm.
He appeared in court on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty.
Portland police have not released any other details about what happened before the shooting, and have not said whether Lewis and Beasley knew each other.
