Police identify man killed in shooting in downtown Portland

Officers found a Aaron Beasley with a gunshot wound near Southwest 10th Avenue and Southwest Yamhill Street late Sunday night.

PORTLAND, Oregon — Police have released the name of a man who died following a shooting late Sunday night in downtown Portland. 

He was identified on Thursday as 33-year-old Aaron Beasley. The medical examiner determined he died by a gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide.

Officers responded around 11:45 p.m. to the shooting near Southwest 10th Avenue and Southwest Yamhill Street, which is near Director Park and across the street from the Multnomah County Central Library. They found Beasley with a gunshot wound and gave him medical aid until paramedics arrived, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB). The first responders took Beasley a local hospital where he died, PPB said.

Beasley's death is the 18th homicide in the city of Portland so far this year.

Portland police homicide detectives are investigating. PPB has not said what led up to the shooting. No arrests were immediately made.

Southwest 10th Avenue was closed from Southwest Taylor Street to Southwest Yamhill Street during the investigation.
