Suspect was fleeing minor crash when he hit, killed motorcyclist in SE Portland, police say

PORTLAND, Ore. — A motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Southeast Portland on Tuesday.

Police on Wednesday identified the victim as 32-year-old Brandon Cody Reid.

The crash occurred near Southeast Powell Boulevard and 148th Avenue around 3:34 p.m.

The suspect, Pavel Vasilyevich Krechko, drove away from the scene after the crash. He was arrested about an hour later at his Troutdale home and taken to the Multnomah County Jail.

Krechko, 19, was involved in an earlier crash on Southeast Powell Boulevard, just west of 148th Avenue. He was fleeing that crash when he struck and killed Reid, according to police.

Krechko faces charges of second-degree manslaughter, reckless driving, felony failure to perform the duties of a driver and misdemeanor failure to perform the duties of a driver.

Correction: The Portland Police Bureau said Tuesday that it learned the victim's middle name was Cody. The Portland Police Bureau said they regret and apologize for the error.
