PORTLAND, Ore. — A man died in the street after a shooting Saturday night in the Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhood, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) said. It is being investigated as a homicide.
On Wednesday, police identified the man as 39-year-old Laronn Allen.
Neighbors on Northeast Milton Street near Alameda reported the shooting around 6:45 p.m on Saturday, according to PPB.
Andrea Hand said she was enjoying her Saturday evening in her Beaumont-Wilshire home when she heard the gunshots.
“It did sound close by but softer than I’ve heard from other areas. It was only once, so I kind of waited and listened,” said Hand. “I didn’t hear anything else, so I totally dismissed it.”
Ten minutes later, Hand said PPB came to her door.
“I saw police lights and then a flashlight, “ said Andrea. “A policewoman came to my door, and said that someone had been shot two houses down from me — the person was deceased.”
Hand immediately checked her security cameras and couldn’t really see anything. She then checked with her next door neighbors who had footage of a car coming down their street and then stopping.
“Someone opened the trunk and took a person out of the trunk. I couldn’t tell by looking at it, if the person was already unconscious or what,” Hand said. “They dumped that person on the parking strip. Shot them once, stood there for a few moments, closed the trunk and drove away.”
KGW has not seen the video and police have not confirmed what exactly happened.
“It was so sad to think of who was the person, that was just dumped on the ground. Like this is really, really disturbing,” said Hand.
Officers later found Allen dead in the street. Investigators said the suspect left the scene and there has not been an arrest. There is no vehicle or suspect description at this time.
This was Portland's second homicide in 24-hour-period on Saturday and the 9th of the year.
Witnesses or anyone with tips are asked to contact Detective Joe Corona at 503-823-0508 or Detective Jen Hertzler at 503-823-1040 using case number 24-27572.
