PORTLAND, Ore. — A man was shot and killed at a bar in Southeast Portland on Friday evening. Police identified the man as 37-year-old Montrell Goss on Monday.
Officers responded to the Lariat Lounge on Southeast Division Street near 174th Avenue around 8:05 p.m. on Friday. They found Goss inside the bar with life-threatening injuries. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital and died on Saturday morning.
Detectives said an argument began between Goss and a man in the bar. He left and retrieved a firearm from his car. When Goss returned to the bar, there was a confrontation between him and the man that led to a shooting. Two guns were recovered at the scene, detectives said.
"It's unfortunately, like, not uncommon for this kind of thing to happen around here. This neighborhood is like really dangerous," a neighbor told KGW.
The Portland Police Bureau and Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office are not going to charge anyone with a crime at this point in the investigation, according to the news release. All evidence will be presented to a grand jury in the near future.
This is the 8th reported homicide in the city of Portland this year.
Police believe other witnesses may have left the bar without talking to police. Those people are asked to contact Detective Eric McDaniel at 503-823-0833 or Detective Sean Macomber at 503-823-0404 and reference case number 24-26686.
