Family of man killed in August shooting still looking for answers: 'If you saw something, say something'

Lorenzo Miranda died on Aug. 19 in a parking lot in Southeast Portland. On Tuesday, police released two photos of a person of interest in the homicide case.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Family members of a man who was shot and killed in a Southeast Portland parking lot in August are still looking for answers.

"I just couldn't believe it," said Maxine Miranda, the victim's sister. "I don't know who would want to do that to him."

Portland police officers responded on Aug. 19 to a shooting call in a parking lot off of Southeast Division and 122nd. When they arrived, they found 50-year-old Lorenzo Miranda seriously injured. Although paramedics tried to save him, Miranda died at the scene.

On Tuesday, Portland police released two photos of a person of interest. Investigators hope the public can help track down the person, seen riding a bike in both pictures. Portland police believe the person is either connected to the case, or has information about Lorenzo Miranda's death.

Family members returned to the site of the shooting on Tuesday, where a memorial for Lorenzo Miranda continues to grow.

"It just shows you how much love he had out there," said Matt Turnage, Lorenzo Miranda's stepson. "There's so many people that just come by and put things or say things."

"We just want to make sure that nobody forgets about it, you know?" Maxine Miranda said.

Lorenzo Miranda was shot and killed Aug. 19 in the parking lot of Division Center, a strip mall at Southeast 122nd Avenue and Division Street.

As investigators shared the photos of a person of interest, the man's family also shared a short video sent to them by a bystander, apparently showing the moments leading up to the shooting with Lorenzo Miranda on his bike. At this time, however, it's still unclear and unconfirmed what exactly happened.

"It's been hard because it's like, everywhere I go I feel like I see him and then reality hits and it's like, it's not him," Turnage said.

Family members will continue to honor his memory, remembering him fondly as a brother, father and friend, and someone who loved being outdoors and loved helping others. All the while, they're hoping for justice.

"If you saw something, say something," Turnage said. "What if that was your dad, or brother or best friend? You would want the same thing that we want."
