PORTLAND, Ore. — Police have arrested a Gresham man for murder following a deadly shooting in Southeast Portland's Centennial neighborhood in late November.
On Nov. 25 around 10:14 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting at a home near Southeast 154th Avenue in the Centennial neighborhood. They found a man, later identified as 50-year-old James Mack, dead on the front porch of the home.
The medical examiner determined that Mack died from a gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide.
Detectives investigated and identified 27-year-old William Maingi as the suspect involved in the homicide. On Dec. 6, a Multnomah County Grand Jury indicted Maingi for the murder of Mack.
Homicide detectives, with help from East Metro SWAT, arrested Maingi on Dec. 10. He was taken to the Multnomah County Detention Center for murder in the second degree and felon in possession of a firearm.
Police have not released what led up to the shooting and the case remains under investigation.
This is reportedly the 67th homicide in the city of Portland, according to Portland police.
This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
