Man dies in Northeast Portland shooting; no arrests made

Police said the shooting happened shortly before midnight Saturday in the area of Northeast 82nd Avenue and Milton Street.

PORTLAND, Ore. — One man died in a shooting late Saturday night in Northeast Portland, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) reported.

On Tuesday, PPB identified the man killed as 25-year-old Dontae Eugene Mathis Jr. The Medical Examiner said Mathis died of a gunshot wound.

The shooting happened at 11:48 p.m. in the area of Northeast 82nd Avenue and Milton Street, just north of Fremont Street. Officers arrived and found a man dead in a motel parking lot. Google Maps shows a Madison Suites hotel at that location.

Police said no arrests were made. The suspect or suspects were gone before police were called.

Homicide detectives responded to investigate. Northeast 82nd Avenue was closed between Milton Street and Beech Street during the investigation.

It was the second shooting overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. A man was killed and a teenager injured in a shooting shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday. Police said dozens of shots were fired in the area of Southeast 9th Avenue and Ankeny Street, just south of East Burnside Street.
