PORTLAND, Ore. — Three people were taken to the hospital, one with "extremely serious" injuries, in two separate stabbings Wednesday night and early Thursday morning in Southeast Portland, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) reported.
The first stabbing happened at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday near a Shell gas station in the area of Southeast Grand Avenue and Southeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. A man was stabbed and taken to the hospital. Police said the man's injuries are serious, but they're expected to survive. The suspect left before police were called, so no arrests have been made yet.
Police did not report the name of the man who was stabbed.
The second stabbing happened at 12:11 a.m. Thursday in the area of Southeast 122nd Avenue between Stephens Street and Mill Street. When officers arrived, they heard the disturbance from an apartment and saw that the suspect standing over someone, according to PPB.
PBB said that when officers confronted the suspect, the suspect "immediately turned his attention away from the victim and toward the police," punching a sergeant in the neck before being arrested.
The suspect, 21-year-old, Justin G. Barrera-Guild, has been booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on multiple charges, including domestic violence assault and assault on a public safety officer.
The two people who had been stabbed, a 42-year-old pregnant woman and 44-year-old man, were taken to the hospital. Police said Wednesday that one of the two people had "extremely serious" injuries, then said Thursday that both are expected to survive.
Police said Thursday that there had been a "domestic relationship" between the suspect and the woman who was stabbed.
The sergeant did not have any serious injuries, PPB said.
