PORTLAND, Ore — The presidents, provosts, deans and most distinguished professors at Oregon's preeminent private and public higher-educational institutions are shown less appreciation financially compared with their athletic department colleagues.
These 50 individuals earned an average of just $449,349 during the most recent year for which we were able to obtain pay records. Meanwhile, the top 50 athletic department employees raked in an average of $512,197, a 14 percent premium.
Nevertheless, the No. 50 employee in this group, a University of Oregon Marketing professor, earned a salary of $292,029, definitely not chump change.
As far as roles go, the top 50 included 13 presidents, 18 vice presidents and assorted officers, 11 deans, three provosts and five professors.
Looking at origin, 15 of the highest-paid employees hail form University of Oregon, 11 from Oregon State University, six from Oregon Health & Science University, four from Willamette University, three from Portland State University and two each from George Fox University, Lewis & Clark College and Reed College. Concordia University, Linfield College, National University of Natural Medicine, Pacific University and University of Portland each have one employee in the top 50.
