3 Oregon WinCo workers test positive for coronavirus

Two at the employee-owned chain’s Tigard store have tested positive for the virus. One Oregon City employee has also tested positive.

PORTLAND, Ore — Three WinCo Foods workers have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the company said Monday.

Two at the employee-owned chain’s Tigard store have tested positive for the virus, WinCo said in a statement to The Oregonian/OregonLive. One Oregon City employee has also tested positive.

The company learned of the positive tests Saturday. Each of the employees has been off work and in self-quarantine for at least seven days.

"All employee owners in the stores have been notified and the areas in the stores where these employee owners were working have already been deep-cleaned and disinfected since the individuals went home, and have been regularly cleaned and disinfected several times per day in strict accordance with CDC and Health Department guidance and internal cleaning procedures,” WinCo said.

At least one other Portland-area grocery store worker, an employee at a Northeast Portland Fred Meyer, has tested positive for the virus. Other positive cases include health care workers, firefighters, a state penitentiary employee, Oregon State Hospital staff member and a worker at an Amazon warehouse in Hillsboro.

The Oregon Health Authority reported 69 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Oregon up to 1,068. Officials also reported one new death, bring the state’s total number of deaths to 27.

WinCo and other grocery stores have taken various measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

“Our number one priority remains the health and well-being of our employee owners and customers along with our unbreakable commitment to remaining open and of service to our communities,” WinCo said in its statement.
