Rod on the Job: Kindergarten teacher

KGW meteorologist Rod Hill visits Kelsey Connolly's kindergarten class at Sherwood Charter School and shares his weather knowledge.

SHERWOOD, Ore. — Meteorologist Rod Hill was back on the job this week, this time doing what he does best—talking about the weather. Except this was no ordinary forecast. He was teaching Kelsey Connolly's Sherwood Charter School kindergarten class!

Wind was the focus of the day as Rod explained what causes wind and what tools meteorologists use to measure wind.

After a quick recess and a hearty snack, it was time to put the kindergartners new wind knowledge to the test. With the help of Mrs. Connolly  (what the kids call her) and a roll of scotch tape, the students designed their own windsocks. Rod was impressed by their creativity and welcomed his role as the 'tape specialist.'

When it came time to head outside and test their new weather tools, Rod and the class were met with a challenge -- a windless day. Not students to be easily deterred, Connolly's kindergartners generated their own wind by running down the hill. Mission accomplished.

"The Weather Song" marked the end of Rod's day at Sherwood Charter School and it's a day he won't soon forget.
