Inaugural music festival, India fest, PDX Hot Sauce Expo and more to do this weekend across Portland

This weekend brings an array of celebrations across town, from Aminé's inaugural music festival to the Jade International Night Market, India fest and much more.

PORTLAND, Ore. — It's officially the start of August, which means we're close to the final stretch of summer! With many festivities across town and celebrations, there are a ton of options to fill up your weekend.

Here's what else is happening around Portland: India Festival, Portland’s Jade International Night Market, Portland artist Aminé's inaugural "The Best Day Ever" music festival, Portland's Pioneer Courthouse Square and PDX Live concert series, PDX Hot Sauce Expo, and much more on our list of events to attend this weekend.

India Festival 

When: Aug. 11, 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Where: Beaverton City Park, 12500 Southwest 4th Street, Beaverton, Ore.
What's going on: India Festival is back for another at a new location: Beaverton City Park! There will be a picnic in the park with all the expected live music, food, drinks, and vendors provided each year. This year, there will be live hands-on demonstrations for cricket, mehndi (henna), and a platform to learn new moves for classical Indian dances.

8th Annual Jade International Night Market

When: Aug. 10, 3 to 10 p.m. 
Where: Portland Community College Southeast Campus, 2305 Southeast 82nd Avenue, Portland, Ore. 
What's going on: Created in 2014, Portland’s Jade International Night Market is a popular multicultural event, with strings of lights and lanterns illuminating and the smell of delicious food amid dragon dance performances. What started as a small volunteer group has expanded to keep up with attendance, which has grown to 20,000 attendees annually.

The Best Day Ever Festival 

When: Aug. 10, 11
Where: McMenamins’ Edgefield Concerts on the Lawn, 2126 Southwest Halsey Street Avenue, Troutdale, Ore.
What's going on: A new music festival is kicking off in Portland this weekend! Portland-born rapper Aminé Daniel — professionally known as Aminé — teased his inaugural music festival in the Rose City "The Best Day Ever" back in May. The two-day festival will be held at McMenamins’ Edgefield Concerts on the Lawn in Troutdale. The Northeast Portland native said the festival was "years in the making." The full festival lineup includes Kaytranada, BadBadNotGood, Karrahbooo, Madison Lst, Ravyn Lenae, Toro Y Moi and 3Way Heff. Tickets are still available for those wanting to attend.

PDX Live: Descendents, The Japanese House

When: Aug. 10, 11
Where: Pioneer Courthouse Square, 701 Southwest 6th Avenue, Portland, Ore.

What's going on: The Square, focused on programing at Portland's Pioneer Courthouse Square, and PDX Live are partnering to put on various concerts this summer. This weekend, two groups will be performing, including:

Descendents

Since first emerging from the Southern California pop-punk scene in 1978, the legendary group have released classic after classic, from their landmark 1982 LP "Milo Goes to College" to 2016's "Hypercaffium Spazzinate." Now, after issuing a flurry of singles to get fans through the past few years, the band is touring in support of a new album. Their show will be Aug. 10 with doors opening at 5 p.m. Tickets are still available. 

The Japanese House

Amber Bain, also known as United Kingdom musician The Japanese House, will be performing on Aug. 11. It’s been nearly a decade since Bain’s break-out in 2015. These days, Bain’s sound and style is characteristically wide open, with her vulnerabilities, thoughts and innermost feelings stitched into a tapestry of gorgeous, elevated pop music. PDX Hot Sauce Expo

When: Aug. 10-11, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: OMSI Bridge Lot, 1945 Southeast Water Avenue, Portland, Ore.
What's going on: Calling all hot sauce connoisseurs: PDX Hot Sauce Expo is back and hotter than ever! Attendees can expect free hot sauce tastings and a wide selection of craft beers, with amazing food vendors from BBQ to vegan. There will also be Lucha-style wrestling.

Elephant Garlic Festival

When: Aug. 9-11, Noon to 1 p.m.
Where: Jessie Mays Community Park, 30975 Northwest Hillcrest Street, North Plains, Ore.
What's going on: This annual festival in North Plains is all about garlic, so we're sure vampires won't be present. Festival goers can expect craft and food vendors, a beer and wine garden, live music, a marathon and other runs, a parade — and garlic, of course. Lots of garlic. Admission is free.

Providence Bridge Pedal

When: Aug. 11
Where: Multiple locations
What's going on: If you ever wanted to ride or walk across the Fremont Bridge, this Sunday is your chance as the annual Bridge Pedal returns. This event is one of the largest bike rides in the world; Bridge Pedal gives Portlanders a unique opportunity to bike across its iconic bridges. The rides offered do come with a cost, with proceeds benefitting the Providence’s Community Teaching Kitchen program.

Lee Farms Sunflower Festival

When: Aug. 2-18
Where: 21975 Southwest 65th Avenue, Tualatin, Ore. 97062
What's going on: This annual Sunflower Festival offers many varieties of sunflowers (and other flowers!) to learn about and explore. You can also cut your own blooms, wander the more-than-120 acres of family farmland, enjoy a scenic hayride to the sunflower maze, visit farm animals, and enjoy various foods and beverages with some live music from Pacific Northwest artists.

94/7 FM Presents: Biscuit's Birthday Bash

When: Aug. 10, Noon to 4 p.m.
Where: Bantam Tavern Courtyard, 922 Northwest 21st Avenue, Portland, Ore. 97062
What's going on: Biscuit The Cat Rustler is a rescue mutt who co-hosts Alternative Mornings on 94/7 FM with his DJ dad, Greg Glover. Biscuit along with the help of some friends are hosting a benefit party at the beer and cocktail garden at Portland's Bantam Tavern. The event will be benefiting local nonprofit animal rescue Stumptown Strays and will feature live music from local acts. The event is for all ages and pet-friendly with cake for humans and pupcakes for dog friends. Biscuit’s Birthday Bash is free to attend, with donations to Stumptown Strays encouraged.
