PORTLAND, Oregon — A new music festival is kicking off in Portland this summer. Portland-born rapper Aminé Daniel — professionally known as Aminé — teased his inaugural music festival in the Rose City "The Best Day Ever" on social media over the weekend.
The festival will be held at McMenamins’ Edgefield Concerts on the Lawn in Troutdale on August 10-11, according to a promotional video on socials.
The Northeast Portland native said the festival was "years in the making." The full festival lineup, announced Monday, also includes Kaytranada, BadBadNotGood, Karrahbooo, Madison Lst, Ravyn Lenae, Toro Y Moi and 3Way Heff. Presale tickets went on sale Thursday morning and already sold out, according to the Instagram page for the festival. General tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.
The video announcement stages Aminé appearing to be sitting at Portland's Helen Bernhard Bakery, on the phone brainstorming names for the festival.
During the phone call, an associate suggests “Aminéchella” referring to the long-standing Coachella music festival or “Banana Loud” highlighting Aminé's Club Banana merchandise brand and international hip hop music festival, Rolling Loud. After suggesting these options, the pair settle on "The Best Day Ever," similar to the rapper's 2022 tour "The Best Tour Ever."
The video features an unreleased song produced by Portland producer Pasqué, a long-standing collaborative partner of Aminé. The video ends with the title "A Kid From Portland Has His Own Festival."
In May 2023, a brown-and-yellow-toned billboard in Northeast Portland stated a similar message, "A Kid From Portland Has His Own Sneaker," after Aminé announced a sneaker partnership with New Balance.
In 2016, he gained worldwide attention for his breakout single "Caroline" which peaked at number 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, launching him into a successful career with a cult Instagram following of 1.6 million people.
The Ethiopian American rapper made his orchestral debut with the Oregon Symphony in November 2022. In May 2023, he released his collaborative project "KAYTRAMINÉ" with Grammy-award winning Canadian DJ/producer Kaytranada.
