PORTLAND, Oregon — Well, here we are, with only two weeks until Christmas some are scrambling to find the perfect gift for loved ones. With most holiday events officially launched — things are looking jolly. This weekend, it's all about all things festive from holiday caroling, jolly concerts, the Let it Glow Chanukah Festival and more.
A Pittock Mansion Christmas: Winter Wonderland
When: Nov. 19 - Jan. 4, 2024
Where: Pittock Mansion, 3229 Northwest Pittock Drive, Portland
What's going on: Portland's Pittock Mansion is currently decked up for the holidays. The house museum's annual Christmas display is the biggest attraction of the year for the nonprofit. Admission to Pittock Mansion is $16.50 for adults plus a dollar more for the Christmas display. The panoramic view from the mansion's park lawn is free and perhaps the biggest draw for visitors.
Portland Gay Men's Chorus: Make the Yuletide Gay
When: Dec. 8-10
Where: Newmark Theatre, 1111 Southwest Broadway, Portland
What's going on: The Portland Gay Men's Chorus is gearing up to ring in this festive season with a magical concert. Expect traditional holiday carols with classical orchestra, some gospel and even great hits by gay icons. The concert is said to be a joyous and humorous extravaganza filled with holiday cheer.
Gospel Christmas with the Oregon Symphony
When: Dec. 9-10
Where: Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1037 Southwest Broadway, Portland
What's going on: Nothing screams holiday joy like a good ole gospel concert. Bring that joy to your holiday season with the 24th annual performance of this beloved concert. The concert will feature the region's premier gospel singers alongside the Oregon Symphony. A magical and special concert awaits you.
The Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition
When: Dec. 8
Where: Pioneer Courthouse Square, 701 Southwest 6th Avenue, Portland
What's going on: Pioneer Courthouse Square alongside Portland Mall Management will be hosting the annual Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition that has been held downtown since the early '90s. The event is a fun and festive lighthearted competition with talent of all ages stemming from all over metro area. The competition will be held rain or shine, hosted by KGW's very own Drew Carney, with prizes up to $1,000 being awarded.
Let it Glow Chanukah Festival
When: Dec. 9
Where: Congregation Neveh Shalom: 2900 Southwest Peaceful Lane, Portland,
What's going on: Congregation Neveh Shalom is hosting a festive and lively evening for families. There will be games and arts and crafts, along with Chanukah cookie decorating. Starting at 5 p.m., people can enjoy musical entertainment from a DJ, and hit the dance floor for a neon and glow-in-the-dark-themed dance party. The candle lighting will start at 5:45 p.m., followed by dinner and even more music. Anyone who wants to attend needs to purchase a ticket. Online registration is closed, but tickets can be bought over the phone at 503-246-8831.
Top 5 Portland holiday light displays
When: Throughout the month of December
Where: Multiple locations across the Portland metro area
What's going on: This month is all about the lights — the Christmas lights. Thankfully, there are five excellent holiday light displays all opening soon in and around the Portland metro area: Oregon ZooLights, Christmas Ships Parade, Peacock Lane, The Grotto Festival of Lights and Winter Wonderland.
Silverton Christmas Market
When: Nov. 17 - Dec. 31, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: Oregon Garden Resort, 895 West Main Street, Silverton
What's going on: The Silverton Christmas Market at the Oregon Garden Resort will keep its holiday lights on through Dec. 31. The annual event first opened for the season the weekend after Thanksgiving, and the only nights it won't be open are Christmas Eve and Christmas. This year's event has more than one million lights set up along pathways that wind through the resort's property. The Silverton Christmas Market also features shopping opportunities, with handmade gifts from artisan vendors. There will also be a "snowless" tubing hill that attendees can check out. Tickets to the event are not available at the door. All admission tickets, along with tickets to ride down the snowless tubing hill, must be purchased online in advance on Silverton Christmas Market's website. Food and drink vendor booths are also cashless, so visitors are encouraged to bring a debit or credit card. Tickets range from $5 to $20.
