PORTLAND, Ore. — A high wind watch is in effect for the central Oregon Coast from Thursday night through early Friday morning and a winter storm warning is in effect for the Cascades from Thursday night through Saturday morning.

KGW meteorologist Rod Hill said gusts could reach 65 mph on the coast in exposed areas and in the mountains, travelers should expect a fair amount of snow.

"The Cascades could see a foot of snow at Government Camp and two feet or more at elevations higher than 5,000 feet as a weekend total through the day Sunday," Hill said.

Portland and Salem could start to see rain late Thursday afternoon with very heavy rain expected at times overnight. Hill said the valley could get an inch of rain through Friday morning.

Saturday's valley forecast shows occasional rain and then a scattered shower pattern Sunday, which means Sunday could be the calmest day of the week.

Hill said another storm could arrive Tuesday night.

"One last strong front is currently on track to bring more heavy rain to the coast and valley Tuesday night into the day Wednesday," Hill said. "High winds at the coast may develop, while Cascade snow levels may be above pass level with a south wind."
