PORTLAND, Ore. — KGW is issuing Weather Impact Alert Days through Friday due to high temperatures expected to hit near triple digits. An Air Quality Advisory is also in effect.
Portland has historically only hit 100 degrees twice in September — once in 1988 and in 1944 — averaging two 90-degree days in September, according to KGW Chief Meteorologist Matt Zaffino.
Portland hit 102 degrees on Thursday, setting a new record for the latest in the year the city has hit the 100-degree mark. Highs will be near 100 degrees on Friday.
On Saturday, Sept. 7, temperatures will stay around 90 degrees. The weather is expected to begin cooling off by Sunday, Sept. 8, although it will remain mostly sunny and get into the 80s.

The hottest remaining day of the heat wave will be Friday, when temperatures could be around 100 degrees.
Impact
The forecast calls for a a high of 98 degrees on Friday. In addition, high levels of ozone in the lower atmosphere is a concern, and wildfire smoke will increase as east winds migrate smoke over the Cascades and into the Willamette Valley.
