PORTLAND, Ore. — KGW is issuing a Weather Impact Alert Day on Wednesday due to increasing showers and rain totals around the Portland metro area.
The rain will pick up Tuesday night and a cold front is expected to arrive Wednesday morning, bringing steady rain followed by scattered downpours later in the day and into Thursday, according to KGW meteorologist Rod Hill. Hail and rumbles of thunder are also possible. As of Wednesday morning, Portland was projected to see 0.81 inches of rain through Thursday evening. The valley as a whole is projected to see anywhere from 0.27 inches to 0.81 inches.
Meanwhile, snow levels are projected to lower to 4,000 feet on Thursday, which could result in sticking snow showers over the Cascade passes, Hill said. While that isn't expected to have a big impact on travel, drivers are advised to check weather conditions.
When
Showers are expected Wednesday afternoon, followed by heavy showers and the possibility of hail and thunder in the evening.
Impact
If the Portland metro area sees heavy showers, there will be wet roads.
Need
Residents are urged to drive carefully and allow more time for travel.
