PORTLAND, Ore. — Some people across the Portland metro area and Southwest Washington woke up to a dusting of snow on the ground Thursday. Radar showed snow flurries started to fall during the 4 a.m. hour.
KGW meteorologist Rod Hill said the snow will taper off no later than 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. He said most of the heaviest snow reports have been in Clark County and on the east side, including in Gresham. Temperatures in the valley are expected to warm into the 40s with sunshine in the afternoon.
The snow made for icy and slick road conditions in some areas. Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) reported several crashes and vehicle stalls during the early morning commute.
At one point, a crash closed both westbound and eastbound lanes of I-84 near 181st. All lanes have since reopened.
A stall closed the eastbound lanes of I-84 at 67th Avenue in the Hollywood district. The lanes are now back open. ODOT cameras along I-84 showed a dusting of snow on the shoulder.
The Washington State Department of Transportation is asking drivers to avoid Interstate 5 between La Center and Woodland due to several disabled vehicles.
In Clark County, the snow is causing the following disruptions to C-Tran:
- Routes 9 and 19 are on snow routes
- Routes 47 and 48 are suspended
- The Current is not serving the Prune Hill area of Camas
- The Vine is being served with 40-foot buses. Turtle Place station is closed and passengers should board at the designated location adjacent to each station.
TriMet has not reported any weather-related impacts to buses or the MAX.
Multiple school districts around the Portland area and Southwest Washington were closed or had delayed start times due to the weather.
