PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland has sent out dozens of snow plows, salt trucks and support vehicles to deal with the thick blanket of ice and snow that started falling over Portland on Thursday.
If you're wondering when those trucks will make their way to your neighborhood, the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) has created a map that shows in real time where each one is.
Overnight and into Saturday morning PBOT had 57 plows on the roads, according to spokesperson John Brady.
"Of those 57, eight were salt trucks with plows," he said. "We also had 7 de-icers."
Dozens of those vehicles were still out at mid-day Saturday. Check where they are right now:
Overall, here's a look at how much equipment PBOT has to tackle the winter weather, according to Brady:
- 56 trucks equipped with snowplows and gravel spreaders
- 12 salt trucks equipped with snowplows
- 12 service trucks
- 7 anti-icing trucks
- 4 street-closure trucks
- 4 loaders
- 3 backhoes
- 2 road graders
- 1 enclosed bike-lane sweeper with plow, sander, and snow tires
- 1 enclosed bobcat with plow and sander
- 1 fuel truck.
He said PBOT also has agreements in place with the Portland Water Bureau, private plow companies and other regional agencies, including the Seattle Department of Transportation, to help out in bigger storms.
Brady noted that those are general fleet numbers.
"The exact number of vehicles on the road will fluctuate from shift to shift depending on the operational needs and if a plow or other vehicles needs to be serviced," he said. "That said it's the best snapshot of what we will have on the road at any one time."
The PBOT "Get Home Safe Winter Weather Center" also includes an updated road closure list, as well as an elevation map and a look at area weather cameras.
