Freezing rain prompts Multnomah County to keep warming shelters open overnight Tuesday

The shelters were set to close at noon, but the county extended their hours due to expected freezing rain.

PORTLAND, Ore. — With a potential ice storm on the way, warming shelters in Multnomah County will stay open overnight Tuesday. The shelters were initially set to close at noon, but the county extended their hours ahead of the arrival of expected freezing rain and ongoing below-freezing temperatures.

Multnomah County has also extended the state of emergency to noon on Wednesday, Jan. 17. The county said the declaration will help keep warming shelters open. Volunteers at multiple sites are needed.

Here's a look at some of the warming shelters that are open around the region.

Multnomah County

These warming shelters are currently open, and will remain open until 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17:

This warming site will open at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and close at 7 a.m. on Wednesday:
