Portland hits record high of 100 degrees for first time this year

Portland has finally hit triple digits, hitting 100 degrees for the first time this year, according to the National Weather Service.

PORTLAND, Ore. — For three days straight, Portland hit record high temperatures and on Sunday, reached 100 degrees for the first time in 2024.

Hillsboro, Salem and Eugene also rose to record-breaking temperatures on Sunday. 

Vancouver, Washington notched a high of 100 degrees, breaking the previous high temperature record of 97 degrees set in 1920, according to the National Weather Service (NWS)

Portland also broke records the previous two days, with a high temperature of 99 degrees on both Friday and Saturday.

NWS Portland issued an excessive heat warning from the Coast Range to the Willamette Valley that lasts through Tuesday night. The heat is described as "dangerously hot" as temperatures are forecasted to reach between 100 degrees and 105 degrees. 

Portland is slated to break more temperature records on both Monday and Tuesday. According to the NWS records, the temperature to beat on July 8 is 98 degrees, that was set back in 1952. The record in place on July 9 is 96 degrees, set in 1985. 

Temperatures are forecasted to cool down on Wednesday and return to near normal with highs in the 80s for much of next week.
