PORTLAND, Ore. — Several school districts are closing again on Friday as snow and freezing temperatures persist after a record winter storm pummeled the area. Schools closed on Thursday after many released students early on Wednesday when snow began to fall.
The following districts said they would close Friday:
- Portland Public Schools
- Beaverton School District
- Gresham-Barlow School District
- Parkrose School District
- Centennial School District
- Vancouver Public Schools
- Evergreen School District
- Battle Ground School District
- Camas School District
- Hockinson School District
- Ridgefield School District
- Washougal School District
- Corbett School District
- Scappoose School District
- St. Helens School District
- Lincoln County School District
- Estacada School District
- Molalla River School District
- French International School of Ore.
Portland recorded 10.8 inches of snow Wednesday, the second-largest snow total ever recorded in the city, the National Weather Service reported. The highest total recorded was 14.4 inches on Jan. 21, 1943.
Not everyone across the Portland-Vancouver metro area saw as much snow as Portland. Some areas saw closer to a dusting to a few inches of snow, with Hillsboro seeing seven inches of snow while Salem saw just three, for example.
