PORTLAND, Ore. — Thursday morning brought the coldest temperature so far this season, and a mostly clear sky will bring similar cold nights through Saturday morning.

Portland registered at 27 degrees at PDX on Thursday. Hillsboro was the coldest spot in the metro valley at 23 degrees while Salem reported 24 degrees. Many woke up to frost on their lawns and cars and some icy spots.

The National Weather Service warned Friday and Saturday mornings are going to be cold and feel even colder with wind chill in the teens.

"Do what you need to do to protect people, pets, and plants during these cold nights and mornings," the National Weather Service wrote on social media.

The cold temperatures are below normal for this time of year, but they're not close to record territory. The records for Portland for Dec. 15 and 16 are a frigid 6 and 7 degrees.

This fall has been chilly overall with Portland recording 35 out of 45 days since November 1 with temperatures below normal.

Will Portland see snow next week?

Some have noticed the snowflake popping up on their phone's weather app for next week. Could Portland see some snow on the ground?

It's still unclear. A large Arctic air mass could drop into our region, bringing cold air and temperatures. On Thursday, models showed the cold air boundary holding just to our north, meaning Portland would see rain next week, not snow.

"Keep in mind, weather models could still change and ultimately the forecast for next Monday and Tuesday is still somewhat uncertain," said KGW Meteorologist Rod Hill.
