PORTLAND, Ore. — People in parts of the Willamette Valley south of Portland woke up Tuesday morning to more snow on the ground. It marked the third straight morning of a wintry mix of snow and rain showers in the region.
The Portland metro area saw snow flurries but it didn't accumulate on the ground, though there was the potential for 1-2 inches of sticking snow. That hinged on whether or not temperatures stayed at or below freezing. The lower elevations, including Portland and Vancouver, have seen temperatures hold above freezing, KGW meteorologist Rod Hill reported.
Snow on the ground has been reported in much of Yamhill County including Dallas, Amity and McMinnville, along with the Albany, Corvallis and Salem areas, according to Hill.
Hill shared a photo on Facebook showing the snow at Willamette Valley Vineyards. From Salem to Kelso, early morning temperatures showed 35-38 degrees, Hill said.
KGW viewers have also reported seeing sticking snow in areas including Willsonville, Keizer, Falls City, Aumsville, Tillamook and Siletz.
KGW Sunrise reporter Devon Haskins drove around the region to check on the road conditions. He found a slushy mix on Interstate 5 and a dusting of snow on the shoulder of the road in the Turner area.
"Weather models show the surface wind pattern veering to the west shortly after 10 this morning, which will likely allow warming temperatures, including the mid and south valley," Hill said. "Forecast temperatures today from Eugene to Longview will near 40 degrees with an afternoon mix of rain, snow, hail and possible thunder."
Tuesday night is expected to be dry and valley temperatures will drop into the 20s, which could cause icy road conditions Wednesday morning. Thursday will be dry with highs in the 40s.
