Tillamook County issues flood watch, bracing for atmospheric river to hit area

Flooding has already displaced dozens of homeless residents as of Saturday.

TILLAMOOK COUNTY, Ore. — An atmospheric river will bring another round of steady rain, bringing the possibility of flooding in some parts of northwest Oregon, according to Tillamook County Emergency Management.

Flooding has already displaced dozens of homeless residents as of Saturday, according to Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB).

The Tillamook County Emergency Management said in a press release Friday that the flood watch will be from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening. The agency estimated that the excessive rainfall would affect the Coast Range of northwest Oregon and North Oregon Coast.

Tillamook County Emergency Management said there is a 25% chance that 5 to 7 inches will fall during the weekend, leading to many rivers "climbing to similar, if not higher levels, than what was observed earlier this week." It also warned of a higher high tide on Sunday.

KGW's Matt Zaffino said this atmospheric river is the last one before a relatively long dry spell begins Monday. The heaviest rain will be from Saturday night to Sunday morning, tapering off Sunday day.

Floodwaters closed Highway 101 and many other roads this week, with heavy rainfall causing closures, flood watches and various issues along the area, sometimes requiring rescues.
