5.7 earthquake hits off Oregon coast, 127 miles west of Bandon

It was the eighth-largest earthquake reported off the Oregon coast by the United States Geological Survey in the past 10 years.

BANDON, Ore. — A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck about 127 miles off the central Oregon coast late Monday night.

It was the eighth-largest earthquake reported off the Oregon coast by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) in the past 10 years.

  • Aug. 22, 2018: 6.2 magnitude
  • April 11, 2012: 6.0 magnitude
  • Sept. 5, 2019: 5.9 magnitude
  • June 1, 2015: 5.9 magnitude
  • May 31, 2015: 5.8 magnitude
  • Feb. 14, 2012: 5.8 magnitude
  • Dec. 28, 2020: 5.7 magnitude

The USGS said Monday night's earthquake happened west of Bandon around 11:10 p.m. with a depth of about 6.2 miles.

116 people reported feeling the earthquake, according to the USGS.

A smaller earthquake of 3.2 magnitude also struck near the same location about 3 hours later at 2:14 a.m. That earthquake happened 115 miles slightly southwest of Bandon. It also had a depth of about 6.2 miles. Nobody has reported feeling that earthquake.
