PORTLAND, Ore. — A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck at 8:02 a.m. on Thursday, about 192 miles off the southern Oregon coast, west of Coos Bay, according to the U.S. Geological Service.
The National Tsunami Warning Center reports that no tsunami is expected.
The quake was about 7.5 miles deep, according to the USGS.
The large quake was preceded by a 3.8 magnitude earthquake 160 miles west of Coos Bay at 7:25 a.m.
A 4.0 magnitude earthquake about 165 miles northwest of Coos Bay struck at 8:27 a.m., the USGS said.
The quakes follow a 6.3 earthquake off the southern Oregon coast, west of Bandon, a week ago, on August 29.
