PORTLAND, Ore. — It's going to be a chilly one this week, with record-low temperatures expected in the Portland area and plenty of new snow in the Cascades.

KGW meteorologist Rod Hill said snow levels could drop below 1,000 feet on Monday and morning temperatures could dip into the teens Tuesday through Thursday before warming up Thursday afternoon.

Meanwhile, skiers and snowboarders can rejoice as Mt. Hood finally gets a much-anticipated layer of fresh powder.

As of late Monday morning, Timberline Lodge and Mt. Hood Meadows had gotten more than a foot of new snow within 24 hours and nearly two feet of new snow since Saturday.

Up to a foot of new snow could accumulate on the mountain through Monday alone.

Along the Oregon Coast Range, Hill said the higher passes could see four to eight inches of snow.

The forecast is a big change from earlier this month, when Portland hit a record-high of 67 degrees on Feb. 11. In addition to breaking the record for that date, it was the city's warmest day on record in the first half of February.
