PORTLAND, Ore. — Alaska Airlines announced on Monday it is adding more than 20 daily departures from Portland International Airport (PDX) starting this summer, with a focus on the most “sought-after” destinations.

The Seattle-based carrier said their capacity has increased by 25%. By this summer, they will have more than 100 average daily departures out of Portland.

“We’ve been the largest carrier in Portland for more than 20 years. We don’t take that for granted.” said Kirsten Amrine, vice president of revenue management and network planning for Alaska Airlines. “It’s important for us to provide our guests with a variety of convenient flight options at PDX along with the addition of new routes.”

The company currently serves 53 nonstop destinations out of Portland. Service will increase to a handful of cities, including Las Vegas, Reno, Sacramento, Ontario and California beginning Aug. 20. Then, starting Oct. 1, the airline will increase service from PDX to Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Phoenix, Fresno and Medford.

Demand for the winter-spring seasonal flight to Redmond/Bend is so popular, the airline said they're also adding a second daily roundtrip starting Oct. 1.

Alaska Airlines also extended their nonstop seasonal flights to Billings, Kansas City and Minneapolis until the end of the year, instead of late summer as initially announced. Meanwhile, year-round flights to Nashville, Tennessee will start on March 14.

“More Alaska flights means even more options for travelers, whether they’re flying cross-country or within the state,” said Dan Pippenger, chief aviation officer at the Port of Portland. “The increase in service means more visitors for our concession and ground travel partners — the local businesses that are the heart of our region and bring so much excitement to our airport.”
