PORTLAND, Ore. — A police investigation is ongoing after a crash in the Concordia neighborhood on Saturday night took the lives of two people.
Portland police said two vehicles collided at Northeast Lombard Street and 33rd Avenue at around 6 p.m.
The driver and passenger in a small SUV died at the scene, police said. The driver of a pick-up truck involved in the crash was detained for a criminal investigation.
These are the 55th and 56th traffic fatalities of the year in the city, according to KGW data. Portland police say there have been 7 traffic deaths in Portland in the last two weeks.
Northeast Lombard was closed between Northeast 33rd and 36th Avenue for the investigation. It reopened shortly after midnight.
