PORTLAND, Ore. — A semi-truck rollover crash has closed both lanes of the ramp from northbound Interstate 5 to Interstate 405 in Portland's South Waterfront area. The lanes will remain closed until mid-Thursday evening, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Drivers traveling north on I-5 trying to reach I-405 or Highway 26 can continue on I-5 north across the Marquam Bridge and then use the Fremont Bridge to get on I-405 southbound, ODOT said.

ODOT first reported the crash shortly after noon and said a tow truck was enroute and crews were working to clean up a diesel fuel spill at the site. In an update at 4 p.m., the agency said the truck had been carrying hay, and its trailer had come loose in the crash.

Portland Fire & Rescue also responded to the crash site. The agency tweeted Thursday afternoon that crews were working to extricate one person and a dog who had been pinned by the crash, with hoses deployed in case the leaking diesel caught fire. The agency later said the person had been removed and was being prepared for ambulance transport with injuries that were not life-threatening. The dog was uninjured.

The incident happened on a steeply angled section of road, ODOT said, making recovery more complicated. Crews also had to pump 200 more gallons of diesel fuel out of the truck's tanks.

ODOT's TripCheck map and traffic cameras showed northbound I-5 traffic backed up for miles from the crash site, extending south to around Southwest Multnomah Boulevard.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
