PORTLAND, Ore. — MAX Blue, Green and Red line trains have resumed regular service Friday evening after damage to an overhead wire near the Hollywood Transit Center was repaired.

The lines were disrupted for nearly 24 hours. Shuttle buses were used to transport passengers during that time.

TriMet said a train on Thursday was running with damaged pantographs, which are the arms that extend from the roof of the train to the overhead wire to get power. The damage to the train's pantographs also caused damage to the overhead wire.

The poles that hold the wire up also needed repairing.

“Due to the extensive damage, crews will be working on repairs throughout the night and likely into tomorrow,” TriMet spokeswoman Roberta Altstadt said on Thursday. "We do encourage riders to plan extra time for their morning commutes on MAX and check trimet.org/alerts well before they head out."

People who were on the train with the bad arms were able to get off safely, Altstadt said.
