1 dead after crash on Northeast Portland freeway ramp

A vehicle hit and killed Jeremy Young on the ramp from Interstate 84 westbound to Interstate 205 southbound, according to Portland police.

PORTLAND, Oregon — Portland police are investigating a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian that happened early Thursday morning, killing the pedestrian. Interstate 84 westbound was closed between the Interstate 205 exit and the 102nd Avenue onramp for several hours during morning rush hour.

According to police, around 5:00 a.m., officers from the North Precinct responded to a crash on the ramp connecting the Interstate 84 westbound to Interstate 205 southbound.

When officers arrived, they found a man dead at the scene. On Aug. 13, Portland police identified him as 48-year-old Jeremy Young. The driver of the vehicle stayed to cooperate with police.

The Portland Police Division Major Crash Team is investigating the crash and shut the ramp down, encouraging drivers to either continue on Interstate 84 or go northbound on Interstate 205.

Westbound Interstate 84 traffic was diverted to Interstate 205; drivers are able to rejoin Interstate 84 westbound from Interstate 205 southbound, according to KGW's Chris McGinness.

Interstate 205 southbound is also backed up five miles from West Linn to Clackamas due to that crash and debris on the road near Highway 43.

Police are asking anyone who may have information on the crash to contact crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 24-198589.
